When you scale the primary DB instance, its standby DB instance is also scaled.</li><li id="en-us_topic_0034943367__li29577530115047">The DB instances can be scaled when they are in the <strong id="en-us_topic_0034943367__b842352706163746">Available</strong> state.</li></ol>
